Today we learned the choreography for the opening song, Arabian Nights.  Everyone is on stage! There are videos on the Aladdin photo page that you can practice with. If you missed rehearsal, check with Petra to find out where she wants you to be.  

On Sunday we will work on A Friend Like Me, so be listening to the CD and learning that song, and if you don't already know all your lines, now is the time to learn them.

Petra Said:  I always agonize over casting, because I not only want to cast the roles well, but because I know how important it is to each kid. This has been an especially difficult show to cast, because everyone was so talented that I could have cast this show several different ways, and it would have still been an awesome casting.

Being a performer myself, I know how much each moment matters to each performer, so I’ve tried to create more parts by doubling the number of narrators and creating solos for other actors in a couple of the songs. I’ve tried to make sure each one feels like they have a spotlight moment, if possible, even if it is small.

There was a lot of waiting yesterday.  We sat in the hall in talked to our friends while the one auditioning went in alone to sing for Petra.  After we were done, we went to the sanctuary and sang some songs from the show.  From now on, there won't be unstructured time during rehearsals.  If you are not on stage, or soon to be on stage, we will be in another room going over lines, singing, rehearsing choreography, or making props.

Parents, remember one of our first emails we asked you to start collecting stuff?? Well, we don't need the household items anymore.  Thank you.

I think our first rehearsal went really really well.  They started learning Stage Directions.  Below is an image that may help them remember.  They also learned how to "Slate" which is to walk Downstage Center, state clearly their name, age, and the song they plan to sing.  On Sunday, they will sing the song, but today was just practicing the Slating itself.

Please help your actor to remember to write their name in their script and bring it with them to every rehearsal, along with a pencil and eraser.  Ink is never a good idea in a script, because things can and do change.

They also got their "Mug shot" taken, which just helps the Board and the Director put names with faces.  There will be a photo page, password protected, available soon.

Ten more days until Aladdin!  We are very excited and have BIG things planned.  Changes are already happening to the stage and lighting setup.
